Close Action as location?

It's all down to "blame culture". People want to hold others responsible for their own stupidity sometimes.

I could well imagine some rambler bimbling onto the site on a gameday, just because it's their "right" and then whining and sueing when they got shot..

OK, we are moving a bit forward with planning now.

We checked out the Top Lodge site but the only do caravans, not tents.
However, the Forestry Commission do have this camping thing in Fineshade Wood, somewhere, where tents can be pitched along with camp fires and this sounds ideal. It is pre-booking only but costs just £25 admin fee, so that is great. The only thing is that they require PLI. As a group we don't have PLI, that's why we only use airsoft sites. Would your PLI insurance extend to elsewhere in the wood?

The camping thing is a bit of a sticking point as the five of us need to stop over on Sat night and players come from all over the country and a bit of camping and a social has become part of the event now!

As for CA running a WW2 event - well, there is a gap in the calendar in April with no organised events so I guess you could drop one in there. The thing is we probably wouldn't want to go ahead with an October event at Fineshades as we don't use a site more than once in 18 months as players like the challenge of something new - make a 200 mile round trip worthwhile!
Of course, if we can't resolve the camping thing then the point is academic anyway!

We have liability insurance and I doubt the camping will be an issue I guess we just have to book it for you
Can I clarify though if we had a ww2 themed event you would not want to use us? We would run a different day to yourselves and at the moment its just an idea

Ah, that would solve the camping issue then - nice one!

What I meant was if you are going to run a WW2 event (April is free!) then we wouldn't run an event at your site this year but do it next year instead.
There are so few players and so many games now that people are picking and choosing, which is great but it means it is hard to get enough players to make an event viable. Site novelty is part of the attraction!

So there we are, good to go on this one. I thought Tony might get a bit 'offish' and think I was trying to stop him running his own game, but he seems OK about it!

Pete and I are going to head to CA on Sunday 21st (not a game day) for another recce if anyone cares to join us.

"Oh bollocks" is a phrase which springs to mind. Can't see our chaps going for a 10pm curfew or being quiet!

I'm beginning to think we may need to look elsewhere to put this event on. Sorry to say that but, obstacles keep appearing, like the boundaries, pyro limitations, ramblers and now, camping. With camping off site, we'll be straying from the already accepted and expected format of a CiA event.

The boundaries don't bother me, the railway wasn't great for gaming other than poking your head out but keeping in cover (which we can still do) or to flank - the sides were very steep for trying to fight on. Likewise pyro, big bangs aren't everything. Rambles - feck, we had them walking through the game at Husky! But yes, camping is an issue.

That's the only practical solution to this problem I think. If the answer is "no", we really are screwed. It's no problem for me to do setup on saturday, go home and then come back on sunday but, for players like Steiner, etc, who travel a long way, they don't have that luxury.

I think it's a good idea to try it. Noone will be bothered about a date move of 2 weeks, when they have 7 months notice and if we point out it's due to camping considerations.

I'm good for the 17th too.

Have asked Tony to investigate FC ruling on camping in safezone area and availability of camp on 17th. Wait out.

As far as camping on the site is concerned the forestry don't allow us to do that but for a couple of people covertly it could be possible away from prying eyes

I could always ask if we could use Redditch. If we set a good example at the training day (ie, tidy up and don't burn it to the ground), it shouldn't be a problem.

You're right about the hill (not that CA has much of one!). If we're actually on Devils hill though, it doesn't make much difference. I'm just trying to think of a central site which suits the scenario. Also, it wouldn't cost us much (I reckon £20 a head). Plus, I'm pretty sure we could use decent pyro and the site is bigger than CA, with better facilities and good access.

Heh, with CA you are fighting uphill on three sides, and I was puffed out just walking up from the safezone that's a hill to me!

Another option is to postpone this to 2011 and look at Nesscliff instead. There might be some grumbling but we specifically told people not to buy anything - plus we have one game in the bag and sorted for 2011.
